On to the next beard!

The Flyers move on to Round 2 after a dominate Game 7 victory!

And while the team is getting better everyday, my beard effort has stalled a bit. Help me spark it up again?

A brief couple thoughts on the first round series with the Sabres: This may end up being exactly what we needed to get this team rolling as it needs to for a playoff run. While a guy like Vanek took advantage of some sloppy down low coverage, overall we held a scorer like that to pretty much garbage goal duty. Also, the Flyers took on a quality goaltender in Ryan Miller, and found different ways to beat him, all of which require repetitive hard work. And finally the Power Play has shown a little life. I think the Flyers need to be chippy to be effective and generate power plays and then, of course, score on them.

So it's on to Round 2 and the beard is ready to burst out into more playoff glory! Now is definitely the time to Pledge my Beard in support of the Flyers playoff run and Flyers Charities so that we can get this money back into the community to help local Charities!

Round 1 total: $581
Playoff Goal: $2,011

It's up to you!

Brothers in Beard

Another Game 7 on the way. Bring it!

Haven't posted as much this year as opposed to other years, but I'm back today with a fresh new post. I've been spreading the word as much as I can about Beardathon and I'm happy to be a part of an amazing fundraising effort. The competition is as tough as it as ever been this year, as I've dropped to 5th in the standings, the lowest I've ever been in Round 1. Now while I'd like you to donate and help me get back into the top 3, I want give special recognition to those who have helped raise over $15,500 so far! Let's keep it going boys!

Now back to the blog, this year I've seen a trend during this year's playoffs when watching other teams around the league. Underachieving beards have been replaced with mustaches, mutton chops, and other lame substitutes for the playoff beard.

I'm not trying to be the "traditionalist" that is stuck in my ways and will never except change. In fact, the "tradition" isn't even that old, but I just feel the playoff beard has a great foundation.

Not every man can grow a beard, and it comes down to two basic reasons. 1) They just don't grow hair fast enough or even enough in the right areas. 2) They hate letting full control of their face go. Scott Hartnell and Ville Leino can grow one seemingly instantly. JvR and Danny Briere need a couple rounds. But when each of them are willing to put the razor away, and bare the ugliness that may result, it shows a commitment and attitude very similar to the one on the ice. It also shows that you've reached that next level. It's about stepping up and saying, I am a man, and going for the greatest trophy in sports. Being a Stanley Cup Champion puts you in a class of your own, arguably the highest in the world of hockey.

See, there are guys on a hockey team that can't pump in a ton of goals, or log a ton of minutes. Perhaps they can kill penalties or change the momentum with physical play. Come playoff time, it doesn't matter how it gets done, as long as the end result is a win.

And the playoff beard? It's not about style points, it's not about looking the best, or growing the fastest. It's about showing you'll do whatever it takes. You're a man, and you are here to give 100%

Mustaches? Mutton Chops? Mullets? Dyed hair? Perhaps it gives you unity. Maybe it shows how you can all come together. And that's why at the High School, Junior, or College levels, I can accept it when a whole team does it. But this is the NHL. To me it comes across as bucking tradition just to be stylish or different. "We won't do what our Daddy's did" type of mentality. Ironic mustaches. Overdone chops. OHL style dyedhawks. Save it. Go beard or go home.

With that said, I'm proud to show off my beard at every stage. And hey, raise a little money for a great cause as well.

Keep on growin'

Beard on!

Stumble, regroup, BEARD ON!

I've dropped all the way to 4th in the Beard-a-thon standings! While I'm extremely amped that we've raised over $13,000 so far, I'm sounding the alert to get me back into the Top 3! Game 5 tonight needs to be a statement game for the Flyers, and this weekend needs to be a statement weekend for my Beard-a-thon campaign!

So ask your family, friends, random strangers, people you meet at the the Playoff Block Party to

PLEDGE MY BEARD!

All over faces, all over town

Flyers take Game 3 and now hold the series lead 2-1. But hey we all know this is a series, a 1st round one at that, so there's still plenty of hard work to be done.

Similar to my Beard-a-thon campaign which currently is at $506, but still plenty of fund-raising to go! Pledge today if you haven't already, as the grand total for Flyers Charities is almost at $10,000!

Got the beard out and about today, starting with a pep rally along with the Sixers down at the Comcast Center. Always enjoy seeing the passion of Philadelphia as we had another great turnout! There will be more events to come so keep an eye out for us (and get yourself a T-Shirt or cheer card as well!).

Tonight I'll be taking in the Phillies games, and perhaps I'll get a chance to show the beard off to some who haven't seen it yet! Let's spread the word and keep those donations coming! Just about 1/4 of the way to the goal!

Heart on our sleeve, beards on our face

I apologize for the lack of updates, haven't been feeling too great lately, but as playoffs dictate you never stop going hard.

The Flyers are in Buffalo tonight with the series tied at 1 after winning Game 2 in front of an extra impressive Wells Fargo Center crowd!

It seems the Flyers might be hitting their stride, as is....the playoff beard.

Full coverage on my face so far and seems to be growing faster and faster. By the time the Flyers return home for Game 5, it should be in pretty good shape.

Donation wise? Well we've slowed down. Perhaps it's on me for the lack of promotion, but I'm back asking you to please donate, via pledging my beard, to Flyers Charities.

Don't get me wrong $481 dollars for my beard and $8,544 dollars total is AWESOME! But I know we can do better! Any amount helps and let's show the other cities around the league that we plan to compete in every aspect on and off the ice. And with all the donations going to Flyers Charities, the money raised go right back into our community.

So if you haven't pledged yet, don't delay. Tell your friends, co-workers, random people on the street if you're so brave, to pledge my beard today so we can take on the other league leaders!

If this doesn't light your fire, your beard's wet.

As hockey fans, this is what we live for.....the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

It was hard to sleep last night knowing that shortly I'd be in the Wells Fargo Center experiencing playoff hockey. All morning I watched YouTube clip after YouTube clip, getting more and more amped for tonight's puck drop.

With all that said, video does it no justice. There is no feeling like being inside that building, when the opening videos play, God Bless America is sang, the puck is dropped, the first hit is thrown...the feeling grows minute by minute.

That's why I grow a playoff beard. To represent that feeling. Pure passion.

So please, if you haven't already, pledge my beard, and not only fuel our passion, but keep the passion going for all the efforts of our local charities that benefit. Because that passion is second to none.

Let's get this party started, Beardly! Right!

Off to a quick start in the Beard-a-thon, I've raised a total of $351* dollars so far and sit tops on the leaderboard over star Claude Giroux.

The best news is before a puck has even dropped in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, we've raised $3,234* for Flyers Charities! Great start, but that isn't enough!

I want to thank all of you that have forwarded, reposted, retweeted, or liked on Facebook my Beard-a-thon video, but now let's turn that into some donations!

As for the beard, the 1st official update comes as the first game will be played tonight and the Playoffs are officially underway. As expected, for Game 1 it will be a respectable coverage, but ready to burst out in a playoff spectacle! We've only just begun....

Also included in this blog post is a poster I have been using as my Facebook profile picture. If you would be so kind, print this poster and set up a donation jar somewhere and collect some cash! (Just make sure to donate it officially to my Beard at least once a week!) This could be a great chance for those to donate as a group to this wonderful cause.

Tomorrow night is Game 1 for the Flyers and I'll be sure to have a fresh Beard Blog Update for you as well. In addition, as the playoffs roll on, hopefully I'll be able to find some guest posters and some other fun segments to add to the Beard Blog.

Starting from scratch, heading to itchy

The 2011 Playoffs are upon us!

For those unfamiliar you missed a heck of a blog last year, but pretty much this blog follows the growth of my beard throughout the Flyers Playoff Run. The main reason was a fun addition to my to Beard-a-Thon Campaign in which I raise money for Flyers Charities.

I set a goal of $2,011 this year, and yes, while that goal is high I'm hoping with your help we can not only reach that total, but break it!

Normally, I end with a photo update of my current beard's growth, but I decided to get you Flyer'd up with a video parody:
